It’s been a while since we’ve made slime, but it is one of my boys favorite things to make. I’ve been keeping huge bottles of elmer’s glue around the house so that we’ve always got some on hand for when they want to make slime. I thought it would be a lot of fun to make some red vampire slime for Halloween, and the vampire teeth make such a fun slime prop, that much was for sure.

My favorite part about slime is now that my boys are getting older, we can take 15 minutes to make slime and they will seriously sit and play with it for an hour or more. This is the perfect activity for when the kids are stuck inside and there are literally so many combinations of slime that you can make, the possibilities are endless.

How to Make Slime for Kids

This is my favorite slime recipe, and I just change it up to make all of the different slime creations we do by changing the food coloring, or using colored glue, adding glitter, changing props, etc. This is the basic foundation of all of the slime we make at our house-

8 oz. clear Elmer’s glue (or color of your choice, glitter is okay, too)
1 tbsp baking soda
3-4 drops of food coloring, if not using colored glue (gel food coloring gives off the best color)
2-3 tbsp contact solution
Props/mix ins of your choice.

Slime Mix Ins

There are several options for mixing into slime. We are holiday and season obsessed around here so of course, I’m always finding fun seasonal slimes to make. You can really customize it by adding-

glitter
foam balls
confetti
pom poms
pony beads
buttons (like we used in our fishy slime)
sand
water beads (you can grow these first, or put them in and let them absorb the moisture from the slime as they grow)

Vampire Slime Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this vampire slime for Halloween.

8 oz. clear Elmer’s glue
1 tbsp baking soda
3-4 drops of red gel food coloring
2-3 tbsp contact solution
Vampire teeth, spiders, and other props

Slime Instructions

Here’s how to make this vampire slime.

Into your mixing bowl, pour 8 oz. of Elmer’s glue
Add in 1 tbsp baking soda, and stir to combine
Add food coloring, and mix until color is distributed
Add any mix-ins to the bowl
Add contact solution and stir everything together
You’ll reach a point when the slime starts to form that it will be easier to knead the slime together with your hands (be sure to wear some gloves to protect your hands from the food coloring)
