There’s a reason why some people feel sad in the winter months. I can think of a few reasons. For starters, it’s cold outside and we’re stuck indoors. There just isn’t as much to do during cold weather, so it is easy to get bored and antsy, for sure. This goes for us moms, as well as our kids. We can plan activities for them indoors, and find ways to keep them busy. We also spend a lot of time during the colder months taking care of our children and families. However, we have to take care of us, too, and here’s 5 ways to do it.
Stay Hydrated
We drink a lot of water during the summer months because it’s hot outside. This can sometimes go unchecked when we aren’t outside or in the heat. It’s best to drink before you get thirsty, and shoot for 8 glasses of water a day. I find that using a fun water bottle that can go everywhere with me, or using a water tracking app on my phone, can help me reach my water goals.
Take Care of Your Skin
The winter months can be especially harsh on our skin. You can start taking care of you by taking care of your skin. Moisturizing soaps or body washes and good quality lotion can make all the difference in our winter skin. Set a reminder to put lotion on your skin or make it a part of your morning or shower routine. Pretty soon you’ll get in the habit of doing it without giving it a second thought.
Take a Vitamin/Supplement
Vitamins are a great way to supplement, and one thing we don’t get enough of in the winter time is Vitamin D. We’re spending less time outside, so we may not be getting everything our body needs from some healthy time in the sunshine and fresh air. I find that a multi-vitamin supplement is beneficial all year long, and love Nature Made for all of my vitamins.
A Vitamin D supplement can be important because we don’t spend as much time outside. Vitamin D is synthesized by the skin when we’re exposed to sunlight during certain times of the day and year, and can also be found in a limited number of natural and fortified foods sources. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, and vitamin D supports bone, teeth, muscle and immune system health.†
Nature Made® offers several levels of Vitamin D at Walmart, including Nature Made® Vitamin D3 2000IU Tablet and Nature Made® Vitamin D3 5000IU Softgel. The 5000IU high dose product is intended for those deficient in Vitamin D as determined and recommended by their physician.
You can get Nature Made vitamins at your local Walmart.
Have a Warm Drink and Some Quiet Time
Take a few moments for yourself each day. It can be pretty chaotic with your whole family cooped up in the house during the cold months. Try to get some quiet time each day to recharge. I like to make myself a delicious warm drink and enjoy some peace and quiet. It really helps me get back at it and finish out the rest of the day.
Create a “To Read” List (and read it!)
Create a list of some great books you’ve been wanting to read. While you are cooped up inside, make the most of your time. If you don’t love to read, this may not sound enjoyable to you, but I am always wishing I had more time to read. Winter is the time to do it, so make a list and work your way through some of those books that have been collecting dust on your bookshelf, or in your mobile device. Now, once you have your list, don’t forget to go through and actually read all those books!
