Hey guys! I’m here with a special post today. I’m sharing my 3 tips for the perfect “Mommy Time Out”. I am a big supporter of moms taking time outs. I’m a stay at home mom and I also run this blog and my Etsy business so things can get pretty chaotic and stressful, so I try to make sure to take a little me time everyday, even if it’s just 30 minutes. Personally, I like to have a little treat for myself and settle in with my favorite show or video game. Right now my newest obsession is The Sims™ 4. I’ve been playing The Sims Series since the first game came out way back in 2000. The new version has smarter Sims, more emotions, and even better creative tools in the game. I love it, and it is so nice to just escape the chaos a little bit and do something that is just for fun. Okay, so, here are my 5 tips for the perfect “Mommy Time Out.”
1. Wait til the kids are asleep
Whether it’s nap time or bed time, the best way to get the most restorative mommy time out is to do it when the kiddos are fast asleep. Even with my husband watching our little one, he will sit outside the door and yell “mama!” or bang on the door until I come out. Ha! But a mama’s work is never done, so be sure once the kiddos are down you take a little time for you before you get back to work on other stuff around the house.
2. Grab Your Favorite Snacks
I love a good caffeinated drink (hello, Starbucks!)… the real thing is best, but in a pinch these drinks are yummy, too. Also, you can’t forget the chocolate! Just make sure you have a little something yummy for mom- you’ve earned it! Oh, and since the kids are asleep, you don’t have to share!
3. Grab Your Favorite Game or TV Show
Whatever it is you enjoy, that’s what you want to do for your “time out.” Like I said, my newest obsession is The Sims™ 4. I was so excited for this new game, I went on The Sims™ 4 Launch day at my local Walmart! I’ve been waiting a few years for this game so I knew I wanted to be there the day it came out to grab it.
I headed straight for the Entertainment center at my Walmart and over to the video game aisle.
Sure enough, there that baby was under the PC Games section (The Sims™ 4 is only for Windows, currently, sorry Mac users!) Of course, we went straight over to check out and back home so I could check this game out. It is so great, the Sims behaviors and emotions are more intricate then ever, with their mood being affected by everything going on around them. Their skills, traits, and aspirations affect their behavior like I’ve never seen with these games! It is so cool. The new creative tools in the game give you more control over building your SIMS and creating their homes than ever, and the game has made it so easy to share your SIMS and creativity with your friends! I am really loving the new graphics in the game, too.
Okay, so there you have it! My 3 Tips for the Perfect “Mommy Time Out.” Oh, and tip number four (BONUS TIP!), make sure you RELAX! That’s the whole point of the Mommy Time Out. It really is an art training your brain to shut off all the mommy chatter for a while, but it helps to have something like a game to focus on that is kind of brainless in the sense that you don’t have to think too hard about what is going on and you can really just take some time to unwind. This is how I do it. How do you do your “mommy time outs”? Share in the comments!
