As you may or may not know, we just had a new bundle of joy a little over 3 months ago. One thing is for sure, a baby can sure throw your life upside down. We knew we wanted to try and get back to a new “normal” after the baby as quickly as possible, for our sake but mostly for our older son’s sake. We knew the transition for him would be rough and wanted to make sure he was okay with the whole situation. One thing that has been fun for us and him is introducing baby to our favorite places- even the Zoo! Now, one of the hardest parts about life with a new baby is getting out of the house. However, there are steps you can take to make the whole process easier that I thought I’d share today.
This is a big one. The best way to make your first trips out with baby is to be prepared. Make yourself a checklist of all the things you’ll need when you leave the house- formula, bottles with water, diapers, wipes, extra clothes, any medications, etc… The last thing you want is to get to your destination only to realize you’ve wandered far from home and not brought a single diaper.
Have the Right Baby Gear
We love our GB Lyfe travel system from Babies R Us. This versatile system is designed to keep baby comfortable and to grow with baby as well. The system includes the GB Asana 35 LTE infant car seat, which moves seamlessly from the car to the stroller frame. Without the infant seat it includes a seat base which can transform into an elegant European style pram which is perfect for baby to catch a quick nap. Once baby is ready to sit up, the seat can switch from parent facing to forward facing to really give you options and ease baby’s transition into the stroller cruising life. There is even an expandable airflow canopy to keep baby cool.
The right system can make all the difference in your adventures. A comfortable and safe baby is a happy baby.
Don’t Stress It
I swear guys, baby knows when I’m stressed. When I’m carefree and enjoying myself, he picks up on that and I can tell he’s having a better time, too. Try not to stress those first outings. Know that accidents will happen (and they might leak out of baby’s clothes.. ha!) but that you can roll with the punches and get life back to normal in no time.
Expect the Worst
Speaking of accidents, just go ahead and prepare yourself… I remember our very first outing ever with baby was to Staples… just a quick errand we needed to run, but sure enough before we could get done he had gone number two and it had made its way right out of the diaper. So, go ahead and mentally prepare yourself and have a plan of attack in case something like this happens, because it will, Newton’s law and all….
Make the Best of the Situation
Even on our Zoo trip, baby had his fussy moments, but the fact that our older son had such a good time and was able to get out and experience things and he felt like little brother was there too and they were having time together made all the difference. I know the first few times we went out it seemed like everything that could go wrong did, but my husband and I really just tried to laugh it off and stay positive. We knew this would be a hurdle to get through but also that the sooner we started getting out of the house and carrying on like normal, the sooner everyone would get used to it. We are pros now and are so ready for even more adventures to come this Spring & Summer.
We will be cruising in style with our GB Lyfe Travel System!
