Okay, so earlier this week I looked and realized that my desk was a total disaster area. So, I thought, what better time to write about home office desk organization than while I’m doing a big clean up. A few things about my desk… It’s in the corner of my living room, and it’s pretty small because we live in an apartment. Also, I don’t keep a whole lot in here because I have another piece of furniture in our bedroom that holds like our important paper work and all that. Oh, and I’m pretty embarrassed about how messy it got! Haha, but I didn’t think it would be a complete post without a few before and afters.
So, here’s the before…
and my drawers…
So, I went through and threw a few things away, and found new homes for a lot of things that had made their way to my desk… so, now I can show you how I keep my desk organized.
Here’s my top drawer… from the top left, I have a bunch of extra push pins, binder clips, and rubber bands. I have some glue dots, and some smash book goodies that I use for my bulletin board & my planner. I have some scotch expressions tape and one of my extra Erin Condren bands for my planner. I have some extra pens and markers, my post-its, my camera, paper clips, and a headband.. for you know, when I’m working hard… ha! That white container is another Target $1 spot find.
In the bottom drawer I have my giraffe zip pocket for business receipts, some current bills to pay or that I’ve recently paid, a small box (target $1 spot) with extra to-do lists, sticky notes, and other odds and ends, a pack of cute thank you note cards, extra push pins, my camera usb cord, and my 3 hole punch.
I couldn’t get a picture of the little shelf above my drawers, but it keeps my new magazines, my coupon binder, and my organization binder.
On top of my desk I have a super bright lamp hahaha that I got from bed, bath and beyond when they had their college items out. It has a rotating pen/paper clip holder on it that holds my debit card, lip gloss, some membership cards (like to cvs, etc) and a few clips, sticky notes, etc… I always keep my planner, journal, and laptop on my desk. I also have my bulletin board, which has my daily to do list for my business, my profit plan for my business, and a list of all my affiliate programs I’m a part of. Then, all the smaller notes are just random things that I have going on right now. It might look cluttered but there wasn’t really much I could take down right now.
In the corner I have my cup of 1,000 pens. Hahaha… I have bic highlighters, paper mate ink joy pens, and some Erin Condren markers. I have my Pumpkin Yankee Candle from Ross, my Willow Tree Figurine from Hallmark, and another little $1 spot glittery box with note pads, sticky notes, smash book lists, white out, washi tape, & some other little things I frequently use.
So, that’s a run down of my desk/office space. It’s simple & I really just organize it by function. The things I use most often stay on top of the desk, the things I use every few days/each week are in the top drawer, and then the things I use the least are in the bottom drawer.
I can’t stress enough how much I love the Target $1 spot for organizational stuff. Make sure you swing by the next time you are in target & see what you can find. Be careful, not everything is $1, but it usually ranges from $1-$3, so still a great deal.
