Simpify Meal Prep with the Ninja Express Chop
One of my smaller goals for 2014 was to start cooking more meals at home. Cooking at home has a couple of advantages. It definitely saves money, and it is a vital part of getting healthy and losing weight. I just don’t think it is possible to eat out and eat healthy. A lot of the meals we cook are Italian based and I was having a few things to chop up each night to prep for cooking. It was taking FOR-EV-ER. I was in the kitchen for a good thirty minutes just prepping things, then another 30-45 minutes to get the meal all together and another 25-30 minutes, if not more, to wait for our food to bake in the oven. A few nights we were in the kitchen for almost two hours trying a new recipe. So, I knew I needed to simplify and organize my meal prep. Until now we’ve been using the old fashioned way- a knife, or a cheap hand chopper. I hated that chopper, it had so many problems- it didn’t work half the time, it was loud, it sounded like we were doing construction (our kitchen is attached to our neighbor’s), it was hard to wash… the list goes on. We knew something had to give.. enter the Ninja Express Chop.
To be honest, I had my doubts. Mainly because this chopper was so inexpensive! Just $20 at Walmart. I just knew it would have some kind of catch. Wrong. This thing was AMAZING. That’s when I knew I had to share it with you guys. The first night we used it, we were just needing one clove of garlic, but my husband was so excited he wanted to use it ASAP. I knew that there was no way this thing would touch one little lonely piece of garlic. Well, I was wrong again. It chopped up the garlic perfectly, and all we had to do was use a spoon to get the minced garlic out of the chopper. It only took about 2 minutes versus the 10 it would have previously taken us, and bonus- my husband didn’t smell like garlic for the rest of the night! Now, garlic is easy peasy. When it comes to onion- that’s a killer. Not only does it take a ridiculously long time to chop up a decent amount of onion into smaller pieces, good luck not crying and/or chopping off your fingers. Well, for my dinner last night I needed 1/4 an onion and another clove of garlic. So, I tried it out for myself.
To be honest, I could have given the chopper a little help by breaking the onion up some, but for fun I decided to just throw it in and see what happened.
I pushed down the top and held it there for, oh, I don’t know… three seconds, if that?
This is what I got…
I am SO picky, and not a big fan of onion at all. I was so happy with how this turned out. I didn’t bite into any oversized chunks of onion, and that was really, really nice. This thing is my new favorite toy, and it definitely makes cooking at home a whole lot more fun. No more stressing over what I have to cut up before I can get started cooking because it literally takes a few seconds!
I also wanted to show you guys how it all goes together & operates (because I think that is so cool, too!)
It comes apart into four places- the container, the blade mechanism, the lid, and then the top. The motor is in the top of the machine and that’s the part that the plug goes to.
The blade piece fits right down into the container when you are ready to use it. Then, you can put the lid on- it keeps the motorized top from getting dirty, and has a little lid that closes so you can just pop the whole container into the fridge for easy storage.
Then, to clean it- I just threw the container pieces into the dishwasher! So easy and simple. I love that you get power to the blade by pressing down on the top (where the motor is) so when you take the lid off, there’s no way for the blade to spin. Of course it is still sharp, but that is a super safe feature that I really love. I love the simplicity of the chopper and the ease of use. I love that it doubles as a storage container, and I really, really love that it is so easy to clean.
