Blackberry Margarita

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces tequila blanco
  • 2 ounces orange liqueur
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 3-4 ounces homemade blackberry syrup
  • Margarita salt for the rim
  • Fresh limes and blackberries for garnish
  • Ice

For the syrup- 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries, and 1-2 tbsp. lime juice.

How to Make a Blackberry Margarita

To make the blackberry syrup-

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries, 1-2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice. Heat to a simmer, simmer for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the heat and strain through a fine mesh sieve. Save the leftover syrup for other drinks, dirty sodas, ice cream topping, etc.

Step 1: Prepare the glass.

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita glass and dip it in coarse margarita salt. Fill the glass with ice.

Step 2: Make the drink.

To a cocktail shaker, add a handful of ice, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and blackberry syrup. Shake well to combine and chill.

Step 3: Serve.

Pour the cocktail, strained, evenly into each glass. Garnish with fresh lime and blackberries.

Tips for the best Blackberry Margarita

  • Use fresh lime juice. Bottled lime juice won’t give the same bright citrus flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness. Use more or less of the blackberry syrup for more sweetness and blackberry flavor, or less.
