Why we love this recipe
- They are easy to make, delicious, and such a fun holiday treat.
- They are always a hit for the Christmas season
- The green coating makes these the perfect Grinch Christmas truffles
Here’s how to make them
Step 1: Add the Oreo cookies to your food processor, and blitz them to crumbs.
Step 2: Add the cookie crumbs to a large mixing bowl, and fold in softened cream cheese, until well combined.
Step 3: Add a piece of parchment paper to a cookie sheet. Set aside. Roll the cookie mixture into 1-1 1/2 inch balls, and place onto the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4: Place the baking sheet into the freezer for 30 minutes to allow the cookie balls to firm up.
Step 5: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the green candy melt pieces, according to the package directions (usually microwaving for 30 second intervals, stirring between), to melt.
Step 6: Take the cookie balls from the freezer, and allow them to come up to temp for a few minutes.
Step 7: Dip the cookie balls into the melted candy, letting the excess drip off. Place them back onto the parchment paper.
Step 8: Quickly add a red heart sprinkle or candy to each Oreo truffle. Allow them to set, and once the candy has firmed up, enjoy!
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, since there is cream cheese in the mix.
Tips & Tricks:
- Make sure your candy melts are a bright green color. Regular green doesn’t quite give us that Grinch look we are going for.
- If you don’t have a food processor, you can add the Oreo cookies to a gallon size bag, and use a rolling pin or something similar to crush the cookies into crumbs.
- For easy coating, I recommend placing a cookie ball onto a fork, and using a spoon to pour candy over top of the truffle, letting it run around the sides to coat. This keeps the melted candy from getting filled with cookie crumbs, and keeps the melted candy from cooling too quickly.
- For a little extra detail, you can add more melted candy to a piping bag to drizzle over top. You can do the same color green, or change up with other holiday colors.
- You can use any Oreo flavor you love. Red velvet Oreo cookies are also so fun and perfect for these festive treats. Golden Oreos work perfectly, as well.
FAQs:
Can you leave Oreo balls out?
No, it’s not recommended to leave Oreo balls at room temperature because there is cream cheese in the cookie mixture that isn’t cooked, and would go bad pretty quickly at room temperature.
Can Oreo truffles be frozen?
I wouldn’t freeze the finished truffles, but you can absolutely leave the uncoated cookie balls in the freezer as long as you like, and just coat them just before serving to save yourself some time.
