This Black Widow Martini is the perfect spooky Halloween cocktail. I will preface by saying this cocktail is not naturally black, it’s hard to make a cocktail that is black in color that still tastes good, so we opted for a cranberry martini that we dyed black using handy black gel food coloring. That way, we have a delicious drink that still has a spooky black color.

Black Widow Martini Ingredients:

• 1 cup ice
• 1 ounce vodka
• 1 ounce triple sec
• 2 ounces cranberry juice
• 1 ounce lime juice
• Black gel coloring

Directions:

Step 1: To a cocktail shaker, add ice, vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, lime juice, and food coloring.

Step 2: Shake well to combine and chill.

Step 3: Strain mixture into your chilled martini glass.

Step 4: Enjoy your perfect Halloween cocktail!

Can I just use black vodka?

Black vodka, while it does exist, technically can’t be sold in the U.S. This is because vodka has to be free of any distinct color, according to U.S. law. You can make your own black vodka, but to do that you would just be using black food color, so don’t worry about making a black vodka for this recipe. We can just easily add coloring to our drinks without all the fuss. There is also “black rum” but it is not technically black in color.

Substitutions & Tips:

• To be honest, you could take any of your favorite cocktails, add black food coloring, and have a fun black cocktail to enjoy, but our cranberry Martini is delicious for Fall, so it definitely fits if you need a good drink.
• You can double or triple the recipe to make a few Halloween martinis at once.
• You could rim these fun drinks with black sanding sugar. To do this, add a layer of sugar to a small plate. Run a fresh lime wedge along the rim of your martini glasses, and then dip the rim of each glass into the sugar for a fun effect. We also used some spooky prop spiders for decoration (you could also use spider rings) to make these even more fun.
