Ingredients

You’ll only need a handful of ingredients to make these easy Halloween Oreo balls.

Oreo Cookies – You’ll need 38 Oreo cookies. Use the entire cookie, including the creme filling.

Cream cheese – An 8-ounce block of cream cheese combines with the Oreo crumbs to make the rich, creamy center.

Orange candy melts – These give half of our Oreo balls a bright Halloween orange coating.

Black candy melts – Black candy melts make the remaining Oreo balls extra spooky.

Halloween sprinkles – Use your favorite mix of Halloween sprinkles to decorate the Oreo balls before the candy coating sets.

How to Make Halloween Oreo Balls

Start by adding the Oreo cookies to a food processor. Pulse until the cookies have been completely crushed into fine crumbs.

Add the cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs and fold everything together until well combined.

Roll the Oreo mixture into approximately 1-inch balls. You should get about 28 Oreo balls from the mixture.

Place the Oreo balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.

Once you’ve finished rolling all of the Oreo mixture, transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator and chill the Oreo balls for 1 hour.

When you’re ready to decorate, place the orange and black candy melts into separate microwave-safe bowls.

Microwave the candy melts in 30-second increments, stirring well after each interval, until completely melted and smooth.

Dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted candy, allowing any excess coating to drip back into the bowl.

Transfer the coated Oreo ball back to your lined baking sheet and immediately add Halloween sprinkles while the candy coating is still wet.

Repeat with the remaining Oreo balls, alternating between the orange and black candy melts.

Allow the candy coating to completely set before serving.

Tips for the Best Oreo Balls

  • Make sure your Oreo cookies are processed into very fine crumbs. Larger cookie pieces can make it harder to roll the mixture into smooth balls.
  • Don’t skip the chilling time. Refrigerating the Oreo balls helps firm up the cream cheese filling so they’re much easier to dip into the warm candy melts.
  • You’ll also want to add your sprinkles immediately after dipping each Oreo ball. Candy melts can set fairly quickly, especially when you’re coating chilled Oreo balls, and the sprinkles won’t stick once the coating has hardened.
  • If your candy melts seem too thick for dipping, follow the package directions for thinning them. You want the coating thin enough that the excess can easily drip away.

Halloween Decorating Ideas

Orange and black are an easy combination for Halloween, but you can have a lot of fun customizing these Oreo balls.

Try purple or bright green candy melts along with the orange and black. You can also use candy eyeballs, Halloween nonpareils, pumpkin sprinkles, bats, ghosts, or other spooky sprinkle mixes.

You could even drizzle contrasting melted candy over the finished Oreo balls. Try orange drizzle over the black Oreo balls and black drizzle over the orange ones.

Can I Make Halloween Oreo Balls Ahead of Time?

Yes! In fact, Oreo balls are a great make-ahead Halloween dessert.

Because the filling contains cream cheese, you’ll want to keep your finished Oreo balls refrigerated. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.

If you’re stacking them in a container, place parchment or wax paper between the layers to keep the decorations looking nice.

Do Oreo Balls Need to Be Refrigerated?

Yes. Since these Halloween Oreo balls are made with cream cheese, store them in the refrigerator rather than leaving them at room temperature for extended periods.

You can take them out shortly before serving so the centers have a chance to soften slightly.
