Easy Halloween Party Dip

I love Halloween recipes that take foods we already know and love and give them a fun spooky twist. That’s exactly what we’re doing with this Halloween taco dip.

Underneath the spider web, this is essentially a delicious layered taco dip. You’ve got creamy refried beans and guacamole, taco-seasoned sour cream, salsa, shredded Mexican cheese, and fresh toppings.

The Halloween magic happens on top. We’ll use sour cream to pipe a simple spider web and black olives to make the cutest little edible spiders.

Best of all, there’s no cooking required! You can assemble the whole dip in about 15 minutes and keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to serve.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this easy Halloween taco dip:

16 ounces refried beans – These make up the hearty base of our dip.

15 ounces guacamole – You can use your favorite store-bought guacamole or homemade.

2 cups sour cream, divided – Half is seasoned for one of our layers and the other half makes the spider web.

1 packet taco seasoning – For adding plenty of taco flavor to the sour cream layer.

2/3 cup thick and chunky salsa – A thicker salsa works best so your layers don’t become watery.

1 1/2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese

1-2 Roma tomatoes

1 green onion

4-5 large black olives – These become our spooky little spiders!

You’ll also want plenty of tortilla chips for serving.

How to Make Halloween Taco Dip

Start by spreading the refried beans evenly across the bottom of a pie dish.

Next, add the guacamole and gently spread it into an even layer over the beans.

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of the sour cream with the taco seasoning. Spread the seasoned sour cream over the guacamole.

Next, spread the salsa over the sour cream mixture.

Top everything with an even layer of shredded Mexican blend cheese.

Dice your Roma tomato and thinly slice the green onion. Sprinkle the tomato and green onion around the outer edge of the dip. Leaving the center relatively clear will give you plenty of room for the spider web.

How to Make the Sour Cream Spider Web

Add the remaining 1 cup of sour cream to a piping bag and snip off just the very tip.

Use the sour cream to pipe the spider web over the top of your taco dip. You can start with lines extending out from the center and then connect them with curved lines to create your web.

Don’t worry about making it perfect! A slightly wonky web actually works perfectly for a spooky Halloween appetizer.

How to Make Black Olive Spiders

The little olive spiders might be my favorite part!

Cut a large black olive in half lengthwise. Each half becomes the body of one spider.

Take additional olive halves and cut them into thin slices. Arrange four little olive slices on each side of the spider body to make eight legs.

Add as many olive spiders to your web as you’d like.

Make It Ahead

This Halloween taco dip is a great make-ahead appetizer.

Once you’ve assembled the dip, cover it and refrigerate it until you’re ready to serve. Since it contains sour cream and guacamole, you’ll want to keep it chilled rather than leaving it sitting out for an extended period.

For the freshest presentation, you can also prepare the layered dip ahead of time and add the tomato, green onion, spider web, and olive spiders shortly before serving.

What to Serve With Halloween Taco Dip

Tortilla chips are the obvious choice for this dip, but you could also serve it with corn chips, pita chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

For a Halloween party, try surrounding the dish with blue corn tortilla chips. Their darker color looks especially fun with the spider web design!

Tips for the Best Spider Web Taco Dip

  • Use a thick salsa rather than a thin or watery variety. This helps keep all of those pretty layers intact.
  • If your sour cream is especially thick, stir it well before adding it to the piping bag. You want it smooth enough to pipe easily while still being thick enough to hold the spider web design.
  • A pie dish works really well for this recipe because the round shape makes creating the spider web easy.
  • And don’t forget to drain any excess liquid from your guacamole or salsa before layering if needed. Keeping the ingredients relatively thick will give you the best finished dip.
