These Ghost Cupcakes are so easy and delicious, we made them by taking our favorite chocolate boxed cake mix, dying it black, and topping them with adorable marshmallow buttercream ghosts!
Why We Love These Ghost Cupcakes
- They’re easy to make- we used a boxed cake mix, dyed black with gel food coloring.
- The marshmallow frosting makes the perfect ghost shapes.
- They are so festive for Spooky Season
Ingredients
- 1 box chocolate cake mix + the ingredients from the back- water, oil, and eggs
- Black gel food coloring, optional
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 7 ounces Marshmallow creme
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- Black decorating icing, and black cupcake liners
Ghost Cupcake Directions
Step 1: Prepare the cupcakes, according to the box directions. If you want to dye your cupcakes black, add a generous amount of the black gel food coloring. We kept adding until we got this extra dark brown cake batter. Line your cupcake tin with the black cupcake liners, and fill the cups 2/3 full. Bake according to instructions.
Step 2: Once the cupcakes have baked, and cooled, prepare the frosting. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar for a couple of minutes, until fluffy.
Step 3: Add the vanilla extract, and the marshmallow fluff, and mix again until combined. If the frosting mixture is too runny, add another 1/4 cup of extra powdered sugar, and mix again.
Step 4: Use a piping bag with a large round tip, or just snip the end off of the piping bag about 1/4 inch up, and pipe your ghosts onto your cupcakes.
Step 5: Use the decorating icing to draw on the ghost faces.
