If you find yourself juggling a million holiday to-dos, this free printable Christmas checklist is just what you need to stay organized.

This simple Christmas planning checklist helps you keep track of everything that needs to get done before the big day, so you can spend less time stressing and more time enjoying the season with your family.
Whether you’re someone who starts preparing for Christmas in October or waits until after Thanksgiving to get started, this printable holiday checklist will help you stay on top of all the little details.
Free Printable Christmas Planning Checklist
Christmas preparations can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to remember everything at once. That’s why I created this printable Christmas to-do list with all of the essential holiday tasks organized into easy-to-follow categories.
Instead of keeping a running list in your head or writing reminders on random pieces of paper, you can keep everything in one convenient place.
This printable includes six sections to help you organize your holiday preparations, plus a space at the bottom for additional notes and reminders.
Simply print your checklist, check off tasks as you complete them, and enjoy watching your holiday to-do list get smaller!

What’s Included in the Christmas Checklist?
I’ve divided this Christmas preparation checklist into six categories to make planning for the holidays a little easier.
1. Plan & Organize
A little planning at the beginning of the season can make a huge difference in how smoothly everything goes.
This section includes important tasks like setting your Christmas budget, making a holiday calendar, creating a Christmas bucket list, and planning family traditions and activities.
It’s also a great reminder to check school and community event calendars so you don’t accidentally miss a Christmas program, holiday party, or other special event.
2. Gifts & Shopping
Christmas shopping can quickly become one of the most stressful parts of the season, especially when you’re buying for several family members.
This section helps you remember to make your gift list, set a budget for each person, shop for presents, and order personalized gifts early enough for them to arrive before Christmas.
You’ll also find reminders to buy stocking stuffers, wrap and label presents, and prepare any gifts that need to be mailed.
Getting started on your shopping early can help you spread out expenses and avoid those last-minute shopping trips.
3. Decorating & Home
There’s nothing quite like making your home feel festive for Christmas!
The decorating section includes reminders to check your Christmas lights and decorations, put up your Christmas tree, decorate the house, and plan outdoor decorations.
You’ll also find tasks for stocking up on wrapping supplies and decluttering your gathering spaces before holiday guests arrive.
You don’t have to do everything in one day, either. Spread out your decorating tasks over a few weekends to make the process more enjoyable.
4. Food & Baking
Between Christmas dinner, holiday parties, cookie exchanges, and festive treats, there’s usually plenty of cooking and baking to do throughout December.
This section helps you plan your Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menus, make a grocery list, plan Christmas cookies and treats, and check your pantry for baking supplies.
It also includes reminders to shop for shelf-stable ingredients, prepare freezer-friendly dishes, and plan snacks and drinks for guests.
One of my favorite ways to make holiday cooking easier is to prepare anything I can ahead of time. Even getting a few ingredients purchased early can make those final days before Christmas much less hectic.
5. Cards & Fun
Christmas isn’t just about checking things off a to-do list. It’s also about making memories!
This section includes reminders for choosing family photos, ordering Christmas cards, updating mailing addresses, and sending out your cards.
You’ll also find fun holiday activities like planning Christmas movie nights, scheduling family outings, and choosing a day for Christmas baking.
I love including these activities on a holiday checklist because it’s easy to get so caught up in preparing for Christmas that we forget to make time for the fun stuff!
6. Final Christmas Preparations
The last few days before Christmas always seem to fly by!
This final section includes those important last-minute tasks, such as buying fresh groceries, finishing gift wrapping, preparing guest rooms, charging cameras and devices, and getting Christmas stockings ready.
You’ll also find reminders to prepare make-ahead dishes and set out gifts.
With these final preparations taken care of, you can focus on enjoying Christmas Eve and Christmas morning instead of scrambling to finish everything.
When Should You Start Preparing for Christmas?
There’s no perfect time to start your Christmas preparations, but I find that getting organized early makes the entire season more enjoyable.
If you’re not sure when to tackle everything on your Christmas checklist, here’s a simple timeline to follow.
October to Early November
Start thinking about your Christmas budget, gift list, and holiday plans. This is also a great time to order personalized gifts, check your decorations, and begin shopping for presents.
Mid to Late November
Start decorating your home, planning holiday menus, and shopping for gifts. You can also order Christmas cards, schedule family activities, and begin stocking up on baking ingredients.
Early December
Focus on finishing your Christmas shopping, wrapping gifts, mailing Christmas cards, and enjoying your favorite holiday traditions. This is also a good time to start baking cookies and preparing freezer-friendly recipes.
The Week Before Christmas
Finish any remaining gift wrapping, purchase fresh groceries, prepare make-ahead dishes, and get your home ready for guests.
Christmas Eve
Take care of those final little details, prepare anything needed for Christmas morning, and enjoy time with your family!
Of course, you can adjust this timeline to fit your own family’s schedule. The goal isn’t to have a perfectly planned Christmas, but to make the season feel a little less overwhelming.
Tips for Using Your Printable Christmas Checklist
Here are a few simple ways to get the most out of your holiday planning printable.
- Keep it somewhere visible. Hang your checklist on the refrigerator, add it to your family command center, or tuck it into your planner so you can reference it throughout the season.
- Break up bigger tasks. Instead of trying to decorate the entire house or finish all your shopping in one day, spread tasks across several days or weekends.
- Get the family involved. Christmas preparations don’t have to fall on one person! Let everyone help with decorating, wrapping, baking, and other holiday activities.
- Use the notes section. Jot down extra reminders, important dates, or anything specific to your family’s Christmas plans.
- Don’t worry about doing everything. Every family’s Christmas looks different. Skip anything that doesn’t apply to you and focus on the traditions and activities that matter most.
Remember, this checklist is meant to make your holidays easier, not give you more things to worry about!
