- ½ cup butter, softened
- 8 oz. cream cheese brick, softened
- 1 tsp. Vanilla
- ¼ tsp. Salt
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar

How to Make Reindeer Cupcakes
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a muffin tin with non-stick spray or add cupcake liners.
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together cake mix, plus the ingredients on the back of the box until well combined.
Step 3: Pour into muffin tin, filling the cups about ⅔ full. Bake according to box directions, about 15-20 min.
Step 4: Allow the cupcakes to cool completely. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth.
Step 5: Add vanilla, salt, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder, and mix until well combined, making sure to scrape the sides of the bowl, as well.
Step 6: Use a piping bag and a star tip to pipe a layer of frosting onto the cooled cupcakes.
Step 7: To each cupcake, add two reindeer eyes, a red or brown M&M nose, and two pretzel antlers!
Refrigerate any leftover cupcakes.
If you make these cupcakes, I’d love to hear how they come out. These are definitely on my Christmas baking list this year, and we just love these cute reindeer cupcakes. It doesn’t get easier than good old box cake mix and homemade frosting.
Can you make these in advance?
Yes! I would make the cupcakes, store those in an airtight container, and prepare the frosting. Refrigerate the frosting, and when you are ready, let it come closer to room temperature, then pipe onto cupcakes and decorate.
Can I use a different cupcake flavor?
We used chocolate for brown reindeer, but you can’t see the cupcake much under the frosting, and you could probably make these with any cupcake flavor you prefer. You could also sub our homemade chocolate frosting for your favorite chocolate frosting.
