Why we love this recipe-
- Even though we’re making these cookies from scratch, it is such a simple recipe.
- These Halloween spider cookies are ADORABLE!
Peanut Butter Spider Cookie Ingredients:
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 egg
- 1 ½ cups flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp. Vanilla extract
- 12 miniature Reese’s peanut butter cups
- 24 candy googly eyes
- ½ cup chocolate chips
Halloween Spider Cookie Directions:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and set aside. In a large bowl, use a handheld electric mixer (or your stand mixer with paddle attachment) to cream together butter and peanut butter.
Step 2: Add sugar and brown sugar, and mix well to combine.
Step 3: Add vanilla, and egg, mix to combine.
Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda.
Step 5: Add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing until incorporated.
Step 6: Use a 1 1/2 inch cookie scoop to scoop out the dough. Roll the dough slightly into roughly 1-inch balls to form cookies, and place onto a baking sheet.
Step 7: Use the bottom of a cup or the back of a spoon to leave a slight indentation into the center of the cookies.
Step 8: Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven, and allow the cookies to cool for about 10 minutes, then carefully transfer to a cooling rack.
Step 9: To make the spider bodies, while the cookies are still warm on the wire rack, place a miniature reese’s peanut butter cup into the center of each cookie.
Step 10: Place your chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl, and microwave for 30 second increments, stirring well in between, until melted.
Pour the melted chocolate into a small sandwich size storage bag or a piping bag and snip off the very tip of the corner of the bag.
Use the melted chocolate to draw 8 chocolate spider legs on top of each cookie, around each of the reese’s cups.
Step 11: Then, add a dot of chocolate to the back of your candy eyes, to attach them to your spiders.
Allow the cookies to cool completely.
Enjoy!
Substitutions:
Spider Body – instead of the miniature Reese’s peanut butter cup, you can substitute chocolate kiss candies, malted milk balls, or even better, chocolate truffles to cut down on some of that peanut butter flavor.
Dough– You can always use a premade peanut butter cookie dough, and then just decorate with the spiders, but this recipe is delicious for sure. Another option is to decorate sugar cookies with these spiders, if you aren’t a big peanut butter cookie fan.
